How does Cannabis control weight?

Cannabis and weight control

Scientists are finally confirming what traditional healers have known for ages; that Cannabinoids can increase the amount of energy and fat that the body burns. Although Cannabis is better known for making people hungry, and most people are familiar the expression “the munchies”, we know that Cannabis also has an appetite suppressing effect. Cannabis can help people to put on weight and to lose weight as each individual requires.

Most people who are ill struggle to eat properly, and people suffering from anorexia, emaciation and lack of appetite have been benefiting from Cannabis medicine for thousands of years. Likewise Cannabis will help you lose weight but not everyone will admit it. If you look around, it is true that you don’t often see an overweight person who uses Cannabis, regardless of how much they eat.

Clinical research has shown that Cannabis can boost our metabolism, which leads to lower levels of fat in the liver, and this reduces cholesterol levels in the blood stream. [63] (Rice, 2013) OV coconut oil is very helpful in treating obesity, and I have found that, like Cannabis, OV coconut oil seems to put weight on patients who need fattening up, and helps overweight patients to drop a few sizes. Another thing we know is that Cannabis activates the stimulation of Adiponectin, which is a protein involved in regulating glucose and lipid (fat) metabolism, proving that there is a strong relationship between the Cannabis plant and exterior metabolic processes. [64] (Tam et al 2014)

The Cannabinoid known as THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin) is just one of the many analogues of Delta-9 THC. THCV is known to increase sensitivity to insulin, while also protecting the cells that produce insulin, allowing them to work more effectively. This has raised hopes that Cannabis can be developed into treatments for obesity-related diseases as well as diabetes, because of its ability to regulate metabolism and suppress appetite. THCV is an antagonist (inhibitor) of the cannabinoid receptors. So, in other words, instead of stimulating these receptors, THCV blocks them from being activated. This ability to inhibit the THC receptors is what makes THCV so important in the study of obesity and appetite control and metabolic regulation.

CBD (Cannabidiol) also has an effect on the genes that affect cholesterol metabolism, and also has an appetite-suppressing effect. So again you can see how lots of different Cannabinoids are involved in different processes, and this proves that we need whole herbal plant for effective healing. Scientists have found that there is a definite link between Cannabis use, glucose, insulin and insulin resistance. [65] (Penner et al 2013) You might agree that something very important has been discovered about how Cannabis can control our metabolism.
